Waiting in this context means to be expecting or to be looking forward to something. Whatever one is expecting then is what defines or describe one’s anticipation. The word expectation can also be described as hope and desire for a particular thing to happen. Soloman in Proverbs 23.16-18 says “Yes, my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak right things. Do not let your heart envy sinners but be zealous for the fear of the Lord all day; for surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cut off”. The passage
of Scripture started by admonishing a believer to think right, speak right and act right because we live in fear of the Lord. As followers of Jesus, we are not to envy sinners in any way or form, we are not to allow the influence or possession of material thing a sinner has bring us envy.
Whatever we are seeking God for may seems delayed and some of those things may look as if God has denied us. Our aim is to continue to look unto Jesus who is our Source and Resources, the Bible says in Luke 1.45 that “Blessed is she/he who believed, for there WILL be a fulfilment…”, this means whatever God can do, our faith will make it happen. Maybe you are waiting for direction or leading in one area or the other, may be for your health or financial situation to change, for some, maybe you are waiting on the Lord for your future partner or to some, you are waiting for your document, career change, business exploit. The Word of the Lord for you is still the same, don’t lose hope or allow circumstances to derail
your focus on the Lord and His promises for you. Our God is still the God of times and season “for surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cut off”. Allow your expectation to deliver, stay firm on your faith which is the vehicle that will deliver your expectation.
While you are waiting on the Lord, wisdom demand that we continue to “eat the honeycomb which is sweet to our taste” i.e. we must give ourselves to scriptural knowledge, continue to apply the Word into every part of our life, Jesus calls this wisdom (Matthew 7.24-29). Wisdom is knowing what to do and doing it, it is the right, timely and adequate application of the knowledge of the Word. When these are fulfilled or carried out, the reward we get is the delivery of our expectation.
Waiting is not a state of inertia, lethargy, watching and doing nothing and to remain unchanged. That is not scriptural wisdom, scriptural intelligence requires us to be occupied is service, doing what is write, studying, praying believing God and His Word, talking and acting faith in and with every situation while waiting, “for surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cut off”.
Jesus is Lord!
